In an interview, Kalki 2898 AD director Nag Ashwin praised Deepika Padukone’s performance in the film, particularly highlighting her fire sequence scene. Ashwin called it his “most favourite” scene in the movie, recalling how it was shot in a hurry due to Deepika’s tight schedule.
Ashwin explained that the scene, where Deepika Padukone’s pregnant character Sumathi walks through a tunnel amidst fire, was a “leap of faith” that referenced the birth of Krishna in Indian mythology. He noted that Deepika is a “super-smart actor” who only needs a little guidance to capture the essence of a scene.
