Ravindra Jadeja announces T20I retirement after World Cup triumph on par with Rohit and Kohli

Ravindra Jadeja has announced his retirement from T20 internationals, a day after India’s triumph at the T20 World Cup 2024. The all-rounder, known as ‘Sir’ Jadeja, follows in the footsteps of his illustrious teammates Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who also called time on their T20I careers after the World Cup victory.

Jadeja, who is nearly 36 years old, expressed his gratitude in an Instagram post, saying, “With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals. Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I’ve always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats.” He mentioned that winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true and the pinnacle of his T20I career.

Until Jasprit Bumrah came along, South Africa was winning

During the post-match presentation, Virat Kohli announced his retirement while receiving the player of the match trophy, stating that it was time for the next generation to take over. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, signed off in the post-match press conference, saying that perhaps he was meant to win the T20 World Cup at the end of his career, just as he had started it by winning the title in 2007.

Jadeja retires from T20Is with 515 runs from 74 matches at a strike rate of 127.16 and 54 wickets at an economy of 7.13.
