Playing the victim card is charged against Samantha Ruth Prabhu

Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been accused of “playing the victim card” by Dr Cyriac Abby Philips, also known as “The Liver Doc”, after she recommended hydrogen peroxide nebulization to treat viral infections.

Dr Philips initially criticized Samantha Ruth Prabhu for being a “health and science illiterate” and advised millions of her followers to inhale hydrogen peroxide, which he said can cause serious health issues. He suggested Prabhu should be charged with endangering public health and fined or imprisoned.

In response, Prabhu clarified that she had tried conventional treatments for her autoimmune condition myositis, but they were expensive and ineffective. She said she wanted to share alternative treatments that had helped her and were more affordable. However, Dr Philips accused her of “playing the victim card” and being a “serial offender in the context of healthcare misinformation”.

The debate highlights the importance of verifying health information from credible sources, especially when shared by public figures with large followings. It serves as a reminder of the critical role responsible communication plays in public health.
