Mukesh Khanna, known for his role as Bhishma in the TV series Mahabharat, recently faced backlash for his controversial comments about the audiences in Bihar and Odisha while reviewing the film Kalki 2898 AD. In his review, Khanna stated that the film’s level of intellect was fine for Hollywood audiences, who are more intelligent, but audiences in Bihar and Odisha would not understand this kind of filmmaking.

After facing criticism on social media, Mukesh Khanna took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify his comments and apologize. He stated that he was merely pointing out the flaws in the film, such as the boring and confusing first half, and used the villagers of Bihar and Odisha as an example to assert his point. Khanna emphasized that he travels extensively in Bihar and Odisha, has campaigned there, attended functions, and paid respects at the Puri temple, so he would not disrespect the people of these states.

In his apology, Mukesh Khanna mentioned that he watched the film with three team members from Bihar, who felt bored during the first half, which prompted his comments. He reiterated that his criticism was directed at the film and not the people of Bihar and Odisha.
Mukesh Khanna also expressed his offense at how the film Kalki 2898 AD twisted elements of the Mahabharata, which he had portrayed in the TV series. He suggested that a CBFC committee should be set up to address this issue.
