Angel Di María, the Argentina winger, has announced his retirement from international football after the 2024 Copa América final against Colombia on Sunday. The 36-year-old, who has represented Argentina for 15 years, scored the winning goal in the 2021 Copa América final against Brazil and also found the net in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup final triumph over France.
Angel Di María, nicknamed “Fideo” (Noodle) due to his skinny frame, has scored 31 goals in 144 appearances for Argentina, having played in six Copa Américas and four World Cups. He also struck the winner in Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Nigeria to win Olympic gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
