The BCCI has been urged to provide financial assistance for the treatment of former Indian cricketer and coach Anshuman Gaekwad, who is battling blood cancer. Legendary cricketer Kapil Dev, who was Gaekwad’s teammate, has requested the BCCI to help Gaekwad in his time of need.
Gaekwad, 71, has been undergoing treatment for over a year at King’s College Hospital in London. Former BCCI chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil, who played alongside Gaekwad, has been vocal in urging the BCCI to step in and provide support.

Patil revealed that he and former cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar had a conversation with BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar regarding the issue, and Shelar assured them that he would look into their requests for funds.
Kapil Dev, who is “in pain” seeing his former teammate suffer, stated that he and several other Indian cricket greats like Mohinder Amarnath, Sunil Gavaskar, Sandeep Patil, Dilip Vengsarkar, Madan Lal, Ravi Shastri and Kirti Azad are trying their best to generate funds for Gaekwad’s treatment. Kapil also expressed his willingness to donate his pension amount if needed.

The BCCI is yet to officially announce any financial assistance for Gaekwad’s treatment. However, given the urgent need and the appeals from former cricketers, it is expected that the board will step in to support the ailing Gaekwad.
