Emraan Hashmi has openly discussed being typecast as the “serial kisser” of Bollywood in the early 2000s. The actor acknowledges that this image became a “patent thing” and “easy identification” for him during the first 7-8 years of his career .
Emraan Hashmi admits that he does not blame the audience for this typecasting, as he himself and the producers were “selling” this image in his films . He cites examples of other actors like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan having their own “patent things” that they are known for.

The actor explains that the bold, “unapologetic rebellious” nature of his characters in films like Murder, where he had several kissing scenes, was a “sticking point” in Hindi cinema at the time. Unlike other heroes who were portrayed as “righteous”, his characters were often “tainted” and involved in “unethical activities”.
While Emraan Hashmi acknowledges this typecasting, he seems to have embraced it to an extent, stating that he “used to sell it myself” during that phase of his career. The actor has since moved on to a more diverse range of roles, but the “serial kisser” label remains an indelible part of his early filmography.
